The Johnny Appleseed Festival Committee is pleased to invite you to our eleventh annual Professional Lumberjack Contest! This year may feel a bit different –competitions abound this year for Columbus Day (US) and Thanksgiving (CAN) weekend! We have tried our best to create a schedule that will allow competitors traveling to the Paul Bunyan Show and Elkins to come to Johnny as well. In particular, the USA STIHL Standing Block Championship will be held Sunday instead of Friday evening, with the AOT Springboard taking place under the lights Friday night.
Competition begins Friday evening with the Women’s American Open Title (AOT) Underhand Chop and Men’s AOT Springboard –both of these events are open to all nationalities but limited to the top 16 women and top 18 men applicants. Friday evening registration opens at 4:00; events begin at 6:00pm. Saturday and Sunday registration will open at 8:30am, with the competition beginning at 10:30am. We will again do the three board jigger in a handicap format and have added women’s barrel split to Sunday’s line-up.
As in 2015, timing will be performed with the Coaches Eye App and video back-up. Results in non-elimination events will be based on heat times (no finals) with the exception of AOT Springboard, in which the top 2 competitors from each of 3 preliminary heats will advance to cut in the 6-man final heat on Friday.
Competitors will receive complimentary breakfast prior to the competition, served from 7 -9:30 am Saturday and Sunday. Saturday evening, the Clarendon VFW would like to welcome all Jills for dinner at their lodge –details to come. Saturday evening at the Festival features a fantastic fireworks display. Most competitors find accommodation in the city of Warren, approximately 20 minutes from Memorial Field, though there are a number of campgrounds and small motels in the Sheffield area.
We are looking forward to another great year and hope that you will be able to join us in October!
